Golf Clothing — Cap Cana Specifics
- Shirts (4–5 per week): Moisture-wicking only. Cotton is impractical in Cap Cana heat. Las Iguanas dress code is smart casual.
- Shorts or trousers: Golf-spec required at Las Iguanas. Check current dress code before arrival.
- Soft spikes or spikeless: Both acceptable. No metal spikes at Cap Cana courses.
- Gloves (2–3): Humidity degrades leather gloves quickly. Bring backups.
- Waterproof layer (light): For shoulder and hurricane season rounds.
Sun Protection — Non-Negotiable
- SPF 50+ sunscreen: Reapply every hole on the ocean stretch. Caribbean sun at Cap Cana is intense.
- Wide-brim hat or bucket hat: A visor is insufficient. Full brim protection is strongly recommended.
- Neck gaiter or buff: For the open ocean holes on Las Iguanas 12–14 and Punta Espada.
- Sunglasses with UV protection: Glare off the Caribbean Sea is significant on the ocean holes.
Hydration & Snacks
- Insulated water bottle: Cap Cana carts carry water, but a personal insulated bottle keeps drinks cold for 18 holes in 85°F.
- Electrolyte tablets or sports drink mix: Humidity causes rapid electrolyte loss. Ordinary water is not enough in summer months.
- Energy bars: Carry two per round. Las Iguanas has a halfway house but timing varies.
Equipment — Bring vs Rent
Bringing your own clubs is strongly recommended for Las Iguanas. The course's Nicklaus design rewards precise club selection, and rental sets — while available — will not give you the confidence needed for the ocean hole strategy. If baggage fees are prohibitive, check with Villa Espada's concierge about premium rental set availability at Las Iguanas, which may include premium brands.
Technology & Extras
- Golf GPS or rangefinder: Useful on interior holes where distance to the green is difficult to read through the reserve vegetation.
- Camera or phone with good camera: The iguana reserve and ocean holes will produce some of your best golf travel photography.
- USD cash: For caddie tips, halfway house, and incidentals. Cards are accepted everywhere at Cap Cana but cash is king for tips.
